A Tale Of Two Cities
Friends and readers, you may well have noticed the building boom going on in Edinburgh just now with the seemingly endless extra traffic congestion this causes. All very well you might say thats good for local employment is it not? Why yes of course it is good for employment but it is not local as you will hear if you take a walk round the city.  If you should stop and listen what you will hear is all sorts of different vocal tones from over seas to other parts of Britain.
Still building booms create jobs and prosperity which is all to the greater common good. But as we at PiltonSucks.com and the residents of Royston/Wardieburn will tell you it seems to have passed them by. The state of the existing stock of houses in that part of the Greater Pilton community is nothing short of disgraceful. Our local rulers should hang their heads in shame at allowing this appalling state of affairs to continue.
It of course does not get any better if you happen to live in Crewe Road Gardens, or any part of the Pennywell scheme. Now of course our rulers have a great excuse for not investing in the stock - the punters voted no in the stock transfer con - oops sorry ballot. The forgotten communities of Edinburgh are a sad reflection of local authority Labour contro l- control which they have had for over 20 years, 20 years of blaming somebody else for their mis-management of housing in the communities.
Today in Greater Pilton we have housing that can only be refered to as 21st century slums where people can wait weeks for a broken toilet to be fixed or replaced. We at PiltonSucks.com as the residents must be, are perplexed at the inaction of our noble rulers, as private developers put up overpriced shoe boxes they have the cheek to call houses and then charge ridiculous prices for, the council stock continues to crumble and the residents suffering goes on, so much so they have become resigned to living in accomodation that in many cases should be declared unfit for human habitation.
Goodness me. Is it a lost cause. Do we shout in vain is this all we have to look forward to. Our noble rulers do not mind spending a small fortune on their campaign to try and con the people into supporting an ill thoughtout, fly by night scheme but might not that money have been better spent on the housing they are so desperate to get rid of.
We seriously doubt whether the ruling Labour aristocracy actually care what happens in the inner city housing schemes. They would rather concentrate on more important things like the New Year Street Party or the Festival.  All very nice we are sure but hardly relevant to the needs of the people who cannot access such city delights, but then again it is not for them it is for we are told tourism, and we are told it brings millions into the city - oh really so were does that money go, into the Bermuda Triangle of the city coffers, well from were we are sitting it certainly does not trickle down to the plebs in the run down schemes that is Labours shame.
So the next time friends and readers you hear a member of the Labour aristocracy telling you that this or that is worth millions to the city just ask them were does it go? Who benifits? And how? Because as you know fellow punters, certainly not in your direction       Â
