Changing The Map
How do you change the political map we have been asked. Well read and learn. We propose that community candidates come forward at the next elections on a community candidate manifesto,we have already read one and it is quite different and exciting.
The community councils would be given far more authority than they have at the moment and would have a greater say in the service delivery to their community. This would range from Social work, Education, Transport,Health and all other services which have a direct impact on their community.
Real teeth real power to exercise in the communitys interest.Open and accountable and public forums held regularly to consult and empower local people to take the decisions that affect their every day lifes.
Local Law and order is another issue which will be dealt with locally as will community policeing.
This is a big first step to returning politics to the community not just to be held by the party hacks.When we received this manifesto,and we have to say it was not from the person who wrote it,although we have asked his permission to print some of it,which we have,we were really motivated to say yes this is exactly what we need,and were have you been hiding.
We spoke to the author who agreed to talk to us over the phone. He told us that politics is no great secret but is put over that way to frighten people into not coming forward. He felt and we agreed that people have been lost in the jungle of spin and promises,and that politics belongs to people and the elected members only have it on loan. Profectic words indeed.
We hope he does stand and bring the message to many more,we have not heard this kind of message before and it is a refresing change. There will be many reasons why we will be told this is not possible mostly from self iterest groups and party lackies,but look at what you have at the moment,what do you have to lose.
