Sinking Ship

With eight Labour councillors packing in for various excuses other than the real reason, a hammering at the polls, the Labour group is at the point of melt down. After so long in office and the death march of defeat staring them in the face, what do they do next.

Leaflets and posters will not wash the voters have seen the light and those that have used the Labour Party as their meal ticket are facing political oblivion. All these community projects that have had to employ people sympathetic to the Labour party might well breath a sigh of relief that these lackies will not have the cushion of the old pals act to fall back on.

A breath of fresh air will sweep through the communities when this jaded party gets kicked out of office. We in Greater Pilton may also be able to start afresh if as is widely anticipated Labour lose control of the city.It is a chance for people with new ideas and thinking to come forward unafraid of the Labour controlled communities, with a community agenda top of the wish list.

As we have said previously we have caught sight of a community manifesto and it makes a pleasant change from the usual guff you read from the party machines. Politics is changing rapidly and the old guard know it,and like cornered rats will attack to save themselves. We in Greater Pilton have had enough of underhand politics and self enhancement. The people-all except that is the party lackies-have been forgotton put on the back burner and given just enough length on the lead to get us to the polling stations.

We have seen from the debacle that is the Waterfront just how much the punters have been sidelined, fed just enough to keep them sweet, but that to is wearing thin. To much false hope,to many lies and nothing like enough involvement in what is going on.We are univited guests at a private party and as Councillor Fitzpatrick would say nowght to do with me. Well friends that has been the problem, instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and making sure the community had a big say in what was going on,we have been faced with elected members who have either feathered their own nest or walked away leaving the developers to run riot and make sure the punters know bugger all.

But the grim reaper is approaching and they will have to answer to the voters as to why they have been lied to and strung along just to make up the numbers .Why after five years of a twenty five year project are we none the wiser. Why after five years has the question of affordable housing never been answered, why after five years is there no sign of social housing. The answer is perfectly clear talk is cheap but action requires courage and that dear friends is sadly lacking with the mob we have ruling us at present.

But now they have nowhere to hide no one to blame, and they will have to answer to you the electorate, and white washing the truth and coming up with the same old tired thinking will not do. At the recent selection meeting at the Prentice Centre both councillor Mcginnis and councillor Fitzpatrick were re-selected to stand again it is hard to believe there was nobody else prepared to come forward and challenge the establishment councillors. They do not own the seats, but then again they think they do but prepare yourselves for a shock this time round it will not be a shue in and many unanswered questions will have to be answered.

We the voters of Greater Pilton deserve better than two overdue for retirement councillors, for remember if they go their lackies will follow quickly and that is a double bonus.

In the immortal words of Martin Luther King FREE AT LAST, FREE   AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST.
